Autumn Style Update

There’s definitely a chill in the air the past few weeks and it’s got me excited to start updating my wardrobe. Well I say start, I’ve already bought my first pair of winter boots and a couple of chunky knits. But when the high street has been fully stocked with new season styles since early August, you can’t exactly blame me.

Anyway, as I’m pretty sure the last of the sun has well and truly disappeared, I’ll be spending this Sunday going through my wardrobe for the annual summer/winter wardrobe swaparoo. As much as it’s a bit of a pain in the arse, I do kinda’ love it at the same time. There’s always a coat or jumper you’d totally forgotten about – it’s sort of like buying new clothes, except they’re free.

After a good old wardrobe rummage, you can normally start to work out what’s missing and then comes the fun bit…

Did someone say retail therapy?

Unluckily for my bank balance, there are so many exciting trends this autumn and here’s just a few of my faves…

Statement Boots

Topshop are freaking killing it with their boots this year! They’ve pretty much got me lusting after their entire shoe department actually. From patent red to black and studded, there is a statement boot for every occasion. The biggest trend on the block is gliteratti boots and New Look have an entire, sparkling collection. Annoyingly I threw my glitter boots out at the end of winter, so it looks like I’m going to have to reinvest.

Cross Body Bags

Cross body bags are having a huge moment this year. Everyone (including me) is fully obsessed! And while I’m forever repping my Soho Disco bag, I wanted to update my collection with something a little more autumnal. If you’re looking for a new bag this season, I’d recommend checking out Bessie London’s AW collection. Featuring gorgeous navys, classic tan shades and delicious burgundies, you’re bound to fall in love with something (or everything). I picked up the gorgeous tassel bag* (search: BL3110) featured in the pictures and it’s literally perfect. Small enough to sling over your shoulder, but big enough for all your daily essentials. PLUS it’s a total steel.

Slogan Jumpers

So after a summer jam-packed with slogan tees, now you’re going to need to start growing your slogan jumper collection. After a good year of convincing myself I didn’t need to invest £300 in a Bella Freud jumper, it’s now all I can think about! Typical ey! But if you’re budget doesn’t quite stretch to the real thing, New Look have a great collection of dupes. In fact, I even saw a pretty great one in Tesco last week.

Fluffy Coats

I so don’t want to admit how happy I am about the return of the faux fur coat. But I’m totally ecstatic! I had a fluffy cream one at uni and LOVED IT! From gilets to bombers, this season the fluffier the better and to take it one step further, go for a pastel shade a little outside of your comfort zone. I’ve got my eyes on a rather gorgeous lilac number.

Power dressing is on point this season… I’m wondering if Hilary Clinton has anything to do with that? After all, she is the queen of the pantsuit. But by just adding a blazer or a tailored trouser to your look, you instantly feel more empowered. I’ll put my hands up and admit that rocking a full on suit isn’t my usual style, but I recon my wardrobe could definitely do with a blazer or two.
