Budget Plans For January

Today’s post is inspired by a text from Barclays kindly reminding me of my ever diminishing bank balance. I know, I know, this month there has been more than a few comments complaining about my lack of money, but seriously guys, I can’t even afford a Nandos right now. Roll on pay day, that’s all I’m saying!  So faced with the weekend and very little plans to fill it, I thought I’d brain storm a few wallet friendly activities and then (cause I love you) I’ve shared them with you.

Girls Night In. Download a few chick flicks, grab a big bowl of popcorn and a couple of tasty treats and invite over your girlfriends. You’ve then got yourself the perfect recipe for cosy night in and for around £10 too… well of course that does depend on how many tasty snacks you’re planning on buying.

Blogging. Whether you’re already a blogging pro or have been thinking about setting up your own site, January is a great time to settle down and crack on with some content. I set my blog up on WordPress using their free templates and hosting and it saw me safely through my first six months of blogging. It was only when I discovered the beautiful themes over at Pipdig that I eventually updated to a custom theme. I warn all bloggers now, don’t click the link! You wont leave the site without purchasing a new theme and we are meant to be saving money here guys, not spending it.

Holiday Daydreaming. Come the 2nd of January it seems that we all get a little obsessed with holidays – I guess the gloomy skies and the prospect of being back to the daily grind will do that to a person. So as we’re all thinking about jet setting anyway, why not spend an evening or two planning your summer get away? You’ll probably find you end up saving a penny or two as you’ll be able to spend more time finding the best deal.

Family Board Game Night. Most of us have a board game or two tucked into a cupboard or loft right? So round up a few family members and dust off the Monopoloy board. If you’re house is anything like mine, it will probably end up in a competitive battle to the death and finish with a grade A row.

Sell, Sell, Sell. January is a great time to clear out the junk you don’t want anymore and make a little money doing it. Depop is a great place to sell your old clothes and eBay is perfect for selling pretty much anything else.

Head to a Museum. Did you know that all (or nearly all) of the London museums are free to enter? So pack yourself some lunch and head out with the bf/friends or on your lonesome and take in a little free culture. My personal favourite is always the Natural History Museum – who doesn’t love learning about Dinosaurs?

And if that all fails, there’s always Netflix!

  • Brilliant ideas! I spent my Xmas break from uni working and I’ve chucked all the money away into an account which my drunken mind can’t spend!xx

These are great ideas! I’ve been trying to save this month but have failed miserably (despite not buying any clothes or make up!) so I’ll be taking these tips into next month. Love the idea of a girl’s night in! x

  • I find it so much easier to stay in and save money in January because it’s so cold and dark out anyway! x

  • “I can’t even afford a Nandos”. LOL! Well I love these budget plans and would do them even if I wasn’t on a budget.
