Buying Your First Home

This time last year, the boyfriend and I bought our very first home. I actually can’t quite believe we’ve already been in a year! Time must fly when you’re house shopping I guess. The stressful part of the process isn’t so much the searching for the perfect home (in fact that was pretty fun), it the confusing buying part that bothered me.

Buying your first home is probably one of the biggest and most daunting experiences of your life. From applying for a mortgage, to endlessly searching for the perfect property, there was so much to be done and so many different pieces of advice to be taken onboard. At times it felt like we didn’t know where to start.

It wasn’t until we found our lovely little home that everything started to fall into place. We bought a new build from the developer Miller Homes and they couldn’t have been more helpful and more patient. I say patient because being first time buyers, we must have bombarded them with about 1000 times more questions than anyone else on our plot.

So for those of you who are looking to buy your first time home, I thought it might be useful to share my first time buyer story. So here it is, in collaboration with the guys over at Miller Homes

  • The hubby and I have purchased two homes so far, (and looking into the third) and the first time is certainly the most stressful. I swear the entire time my back muscles were clenched, and it lasted until we stepped foot in our home with keys in hand.
The second was a lot easier, but the first, well we all have 1000 questions. It certainly makes it easier when others are helpful and can guide you along the way.!

  • I haven’t bought a house & this years still flown by! Congrats on the home, it looks lovely!

  • I can’t wait to purchase a house in the future, but I can imagine that it’s super stressful!

It is pretty stressful, but worth it.

  • I can’t imagine how stressful it all must be. Apartment hunting is stressful enough. I can’t wait to buy my first home, though. However, it’ll probably be a few years since Boyfriend and I haven’t even decided where we want to permanently settle yet.

  • In Germany things are a little different, you don’t really buy several times. Most of the time you buy once and that pretty late in life, once you are fully settled. We bought last year, at the age of 37 with two kids already. But the stressful part is always the same, I guess.
