How To Be More Productive

Recently I attended a productivity event hosted by the hassle-free conference calling service, Powwownow. They gave an inspiring talk about how to be more productive, no matter how hectic your schedule. So as we’re reaching that time of year when everything starts to go a little Christmas cray, I thought it would be the perfect opportunity to share with you some of their tips and tricks.

Make a List

Where would I be without my trusty notebook? I literally can’t go a day without making a list of some sort! Having a physical list in front of you, really helps to give you a feeling of motivation and accomplishment. Actually after I’ve finished this post, I’ll be off to make a list of Christmas presents for everyone. After all Black Friday is nearly here and as a beauty industry insider, trust me when I say, you’re going to want to grab some of the serious bargains coming your way!

Make a Decision

An unmade decision is probably one of the biggest suckers of my time. I’ll just keep going round and round in circles in my head… I mean seriously, I must have wasted hours last week weighing up the pros and cons of buying a new lamp.

Going forward I am setting myself a time limit to make a decision. Remembering that the goal is to simply make the decision and not to spend hours and days wondering if it is the right or perfect one. As Martin Luther King once said..

“You don’t have to see the whole staircase, just take the first step.”

Eat Right & Stay Hydrated

One of the most obvious ways to improve your productivity is often overlooked. It’s all about what we’re putting (or perhaps not putting) into our cakehole. Avoiding processed, sugary food and sticking with high protein, low carb options is the best way to recharge your brain power. If you feel like you need a sugar boost to get through the day, try some red berries or perhaps a couple of drops of dark chocolate.

Similarly, with drinking water. If you’re not staying properly hydrated, you will see a huge dip in your energy, concentration and mood. I find taking a big bottle of Evian to work every day, really helps increase my water intake and has definitely had a positive effect on my ability to concentrate for longer.

Managing Your Time

I have a nasty habit of attempting to squeeze 101 things into my weekly schedule. I’ve come to realise that a tightly packed diary can actually be counterproductive and ends up with no time for flexibility or for those pesky last minute jobs that always pop up.

A great tip when managing your diary, is to ensure alongside your set tasks you allow yourself a free period every now and again – just like when you’re back in sixth form! A little free time will allow your brain to rest and for me, that’s generally when I have my best and most creative ideas. Also you’ll find that you will be a lot more productive when it comes to starting the next job on your list.

I hope you found these tips and tricks as useful as I did! I’m now off to create that shopping list…

  • Such a great post, exactly what I needed right now! So good to keep lists, but also great to remember that you can’t do everything at the same time. Also eating right is so good, definitely something I need to improve on, so thank you for the reminder! Xx
